Ajax – Midtjylland SOCCER PICKS

Ajax hopes to be able to take a big step towards wintering in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, when the Amsterdammers receive a visit from Midtjylland in their own Johan Cruijff Arena. The visitors have lost all their group duels so far, but of course they are eager to prove themselves at the highest level.

Ajax:

Ajax has once again taken off a hefty coat in the last transfer period with the departure of Hakim Ziyech and Donny van de Beek, but the team from Amsterdam is again in the race for European wintering. Earlier this month they won with a severely damaged team with 1-2 at Midtjylland, and the mutual duel in the Johan Cruijff Arena must also be won. If that succeeds, the red and white will be on seven points and they will remain in their own hands in the last sixteen of the European champions ball.

In any case, Ajax is in top form. The Dutch record champion is only in the lead in the Eredivisie, and was much too strong for Heracles last weekend, even at half strength: 5-0. The only blemishes on that game were the injuries to Noussair Mazraoui and Davy Klaassen, who will therefore probably have to miss the home game against Midtjylland. In addition, afterwards there was a lot of complaints about the appalling condition of the field. “The field is overloaded,” says trainer Erik ten Hag. “The groundsman is doing everything he can, but you can’t break an iron with your hands.”

FC Midtjylland:

Midtjylland is, as expected, the weaker brother in this group. The Danes make their debut in the Champions League this season and could already count on the compliments of Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, but after three group matches, coach Brian Priske’s team is still on zero points. The Danes will probably realize in the back of their heads that their role in this group is almost over, but it is of course a matter of honor to get rid of that hateful zero.

In any case, Midtjylland is doing fine in his own country, because the Danish national champion is again leading the Superliga this season. Last weekend, De Wolven took the lead with 1-2 in the top match against AGF. With Nigerian international Frank Onyeka and former Celta de Vigo player Pione Sisto in the ranks, Midtjylland does have some nice players.
