Wales – Croatia SOCCER PICKS

In Group E of qualifying for the European Championship in 2020, the top favorite can so easily straighten the balance of power. With the 2-1 defeat of the Croatians in Hungary on Matchday 2, it was very close in the group, but after the 3-0 victory in the second leg against the Hungarians on Thursday evening, the reigning Vice World Champion as the championship leader is now clearly on course taken the upcoming European Championship.

But the “Vatreni” must not let up. The lead in third place is only four points. On Sunday, the game plan will take the Croatian national football team to the Welsh capital of Cardiff.

At the European Championships 2016, the kites from Wales were still the biggest surprise of the tournament. In their first European Championship, the British reached the semifinals and lost there 0-2 against the eventual champion Portugal.

As of now, the final would be held in 2020 without the Welsh. So far, Gareth Bale and Co. were only able to collect seven points in five games. At the moment this is only enough for third place. The table second Slovakia is only three points away.

Wales:

After the great EURO 2016 and reaching the semi-finals, the Welsh national team had to accept some setbacks. Participating in the 2018 World Cup missed the dragons as third in the qualifying Group D behind Serbia and Ireland. Wales had conceded only one defeat in ten games (1-0 against Ireland). However, with five draws, the British did not score enough points to participate in the finals.

In the Nations League group B4 Wales’s selection ended up with two wins and two defeats behind Denmark, but ahead of Ireland. In the European Championship qualifying Group E, the Welshmers currently have seven points, two wins, one draw and two defeats. The flops collected the kites in Croatia (1: 2) and Hungary (0: 1). At home there were victories against Slovakia (1-0) and Azerbaijan (2-1).

On Thursday, the men of coach Ryan Giggs, who has been in office since January 2018, ran in Slovakia. In a good first half Kieffer Moore had brought the British into the lead. But by a carelessness on the defensive met the home side to 1: 1-final. After the break, the Slovaks became stronger, so Wales had to be satisfied with the draw at the end.

The point could prove to be important for the Welsh in the end. Thus, one has the edge in direct comparison with Slovakia. Coach Giggs also described the draw on matchday seven as a step in the right direction. The coach expects that you need two wins for an EM ticket from the last three games against Croatia, Azerbaijan and Hungary.

The dragons are hoping for an Aaron Ramsey mission on Sunday. The midfielder of Juventus has been unable to compete for his colors since November 2018. Wales have won their last four home games. Anyone expecting this series to continue, should play in Wales vs. Wales. Croatia alluding to a forecast on the hosts.

Croatia:

After the great success at the 2018 World Cup, with the best finish in history, the Croatian national team struggled a bit. Some key players, including Mario Mandzukic and Danijel Subasic, announced their retirement after the runners-up. From the first three internationals after the World Cup, the “Vatreni” only scored two points, including a bitter 0-6 swat in Spain.

So the Croats took the last place behind England and Spain in the Nations League Group A4. Defeats in the European Championship qualifier in Hungary or in the warm-up match at home against Tunisia (1: 2) fit this development. However, Luka Modric and Co. showed their best side in qualifying in the 4-0 victory in Slovakia or in the 3-0 home win against Hungary on Matchday 7.

Another setback was the 1-1 on 9 September in Azerbaijan. On Thursday evening, the team of national coach Zlatko Dalić played at home against Hungary in full and led to the break 3-0. Two goals scored Bruno Petković. The Dinamo Zagreb striker has already scored four goals in just six international matches.

In the match of the seventh game day showed once again how important the midfield duo Modric and Rakitic for the Croats. With the success against the Hungarians, the Vice World Champion was not only able to consolidate the league lead, but also to expand.

With a victory in Wales Croatia could solve the ticket for the European Championship on Sunday already. Inter’s Marcelo Brozović misses the match on Sunday for his third yellow card. Filip Bradaric was re-nominated for him.
