The troubled Everton may be able to build confidence on Tuesday night if Watford is the opponent in the Carabao Cup tournament. Both clubs are underperforming in the Premier League and a cup match can perhaps cause some distraction at Everton and Watford.
Everton:
It is gradually becoming a frustrating season for Everton coach Marco Silva. The Portuguese is under high voltage at The Toffees and that is not entirely unjustified, because Everton is far too low in the Premier League. Silva is in sixteenth place with Everton and The Toffees took only ten points in ten games. Should Everton be eliminated on Tuesday evening by Watford and The Toffees lose to Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday, it is certainly not excluded that Silva can pack his things, because the Portuguese’s credit is running out.
Everton lost three of the last five games in the Premier League and that is worrying. Last weekend The Toffees went on a 3-2 visit to Brighton, although Silva’s team was 1-2 after 15 minutes. However, Everton was penalized in a somewhat unfortunate manner, and in the extra time, Lucas Digne, with his own goal, ensured that Everton returned without points from the south of England. As pressure is high at Everton, it is expected that Silva will play against Watford with a strong team, while Silva decided in the previous round against Sheffield Wednesday (0-2 win) to give some talents the chance.
Watford:
At Watford there is currently also a tense atmosphere. The Hornets fired a trainer earlier in the season and the question is whether Quique Sánchez Flores will succeed in performing with this Watford. Sanchez Flores has now played eight games in the dug-out at Watford and six of those games ended in a draw, while the Spaniard also lost once and won once with Watford. In short: the question is whether the dismissed Javi Gracia could not have achieved the same results with this Watford.
In any case, Gracia’s successor has not yet succeeded in leaving the relegation zone of the Premier League. In fact, 54-year-old Sánchez Flores has not even managed to leave last place. However, Watford has been unbeaten for three consecutive Premier League games, but did not win any of those games. Last weekend The Hornets played a 0-0 draw at home against AFC Bournemouth, while Watford, led by Sánchez Flores, only managed to beat Swansea City in the Carabao Cup tournament (2-1). On the one hand, it would be logical for Sánchez Flores to give some substitutions the chance to play at Goodison Park on Tuesday evening, but on the other hand a home duel with Chelsea and Sánchez Flores could therefore also choose to leave its strongest possible team to possibly some confidence.
