At the U-21 European Championships in Poland, the four major European football nations with their junior teams have been able to get through. While England, Spain and Italy reached the semifinals as a group winner, Germany managed to achieve the best group expansion and now hit England.

England U21

In Group A, the English team started a draw against Sweden and had to win the last two group games. Both Slovakia (2: 1) and Poland (3-0) have earned their successes, which allowed them to get ahead of Slovakia. Overall, the English team had a very solid impression and showed concentrated performance. Against Slovakia, they even turned a 0: 1 back into a 2-1 win. Striking: England scored five goals in the group stage – scored by five different scorers. Among the most striking players were striker Demarai Gray and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Especially Pickford left a lasting impression and showed strong parades. In the current year, England’s junior team contested five games, with only one defeat and one against Germany (0: 1) in March this year. In two of these five games they conceded a goal and both goals fell in the first half. Last year, they were more vulnerable, with Italy (3-2) and France (2-2) already conceding in the first half of the season.

Germany U21

The German U-21 selection team reached the 2nd place in Group C and landed behind Italy, who landed just ahead of them due to the direct comparison. Overall, it was a very instructive group stage, as the German team showed all their potential in the first two group games against the Czech Republic (2-0) and Denmark (3-0), but they seemed to be inhibited against Italy, except for their two chances In the first half they remained pale and sold below their value. To your excuse, it must be mentioned that the victor for Italy came through a mistake by Mahmoud Dahoud, otherwise they showed themselves very combative. The disappointment was to be recognized by the players, so coach Stefan Kuntz hopes for a significant performance increase of his team. In the last test match against England, Kuntz played with a 3-5-2 formation – this formation seems unlikely in this game, because in the previous group games they acted in a 4-2-3-1. At most Gideon Jung would be an option for Mahmoud Dahoud, otherwise there will be no other changes.
