FC Copenhagen (Den) – Piast Gliwice (Pol) PREDICTION (24.09.2020)

Europa-League

FC Copenhagen (Den) – Piast Gliwice (Pol) SOCCER PICKS

In the Champions League, the decisive rounds in qualifying are played back and forth. In the Europa League, “Do-or-Die” still applies. In the third qualifying round and then in the playoffs, there will be one match. So it will be decided on Thursday in a duel between FC Copenhagen and Piast Gliwice who will move into the decisive playoffs.

This direct duel is a big step into the group stage, as the winner of this encounter has home rights against Rijeka from Croatia or the Ukrainian club Kovalivka in the playoffs. The well-known bookmakers see the Danes as clear favorites in this game. Without question, it would come as a surprise if Copenhagen were eliminated on Thursday.

After all, in August we reported in our Europa League tips about Staale Solbakken’s team, which narrowly failed to Manchester United in the quarter-finals. Against this background, a prognosis for the home win seems plausible in the match between FC Copenhagen and Piast Gliwice.

The third of last year’s Polish Ekstraklasa, on the other hand, has hardly attracted any international attention. To be represented in the European Cup at all is already a great success for the team of the former Polish national coach Waldemar Fornalik. Therefore, before the kick-off between FC Copenhagen and Piast Gliwice, there is much to be said for a tip on the Danish victory.

FC Copenhagen:

It gives the impression that moving into last year’s Europa League is a curse for FC Copenhagen. There was practically no summer break for the Danes. This fact could take revenge. In the table of the Superligaen it already looks critical, because after two game days FCK is still penultimate without a point.

After all, FC Copenhagen was able to win in the Europa League at IFK Göteborg, which is why doubts about their own strength have not completely disappeared. The following applies to the Staale Solbakken team: In the Superligaen ugh, but in the Europa League hui. Therefore, the tendency continues to use the odds between FC Copenhagen and Piast Gliwice for a home win for the Danes.

Everything looked like a victory for FC Copenhagen when the new striker Kamil Wilczek took the lead after a quarter of an hour. In the third minute of stoppage time, Brondby turned the match around and won 2-1.
The coach will likely use a formation similar to that in the derby. Solbakken only has to do without Nicolaj Thomsen, who after his shoulder fracture will probably not be able to participate again until December at the earliest.

Piast Gliwice:

Piast Gliwice had a summer break, but the problem is the same as with the opponent from Denmark. In the national ekstraklasa, the Poles do not get a foot on earth. Four game days have already been played there and Piast is still waiting for the first victory. Waldemar Fornalik’s team waves the red lantern at the bottom of the table with just one point.

Speaking of Waldemar Fornalik. A positive infection test currently forces the trainer to remain in personal isolation. His job is currently carried out by assistant coach and brother Tomasz Fornalik. Perhaps he will manage to win the Europa League again on an interim basis.

Last Sunday there was another defeat in the Ekstraklasa. At home, Piast Gliwice lost to Jagiellionia Bialystok 0-1. In the long run, Waldemar Fornalik’s team will hardly be able to hide the failures in the league with wins in the Europa League, especially since the forecast for the match between FC Copenhagen and Piast Gliwice suggests that the Poles will be eliminated.

Whether the coach will be able to sit on the bench again on Thursday is more than questionable, especially since the Danish authorities have significantly tightened the restrictions on infected people. However, the players are not affected and therefore Piast Gliwice can at least compete with the strongest team.
