Liverpool – AS Roma FREE PICKS
If you predicted prior to this season that both Liverpool and AS Roma would be in the final four of the Champions League, you would immediately be considered crazy. Yet these two illustrious teams face each other in the semi-finals of the European champions ball. Part of this very interesting diptych is scheduled for Tuesday night at Anfield Road.
In Liverpool’s own Premier League, last weekend, Liverpool watched Manchester City with a street-length lead seizing the English league title, but outside of its own borders it is The Reds who uphold English honor. The team of trainer Jürgen Klopp is back in the Champions League after three seasons of absence and celebrates her comeback in style. The English are the only ones unbeaten in the European champions ball and the goal difference also speaks with no less than 39 goals and only ten goals. Especially attacker Mohamed Salah, who last season defended the colors of AS Roma, has it on his hips. The Egyptian, who was named PFA Player of the Year last weekend, already scored 9 goals in this edition of the Champions League, including both the home and away match against Manchester City in the previous round.
Nevertheless, Liverpool had a bad dress rehearsal, as last weekend, the team gave a 0-2 lead at West Bromwich Albion: 2-2. Klopp, however, was already looking forward to the cracker against AS Roma and held out on the Hawthorns players like Roberto Firmino, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain outside the basic eleven. Of course they will be back at the kick-off on Tuesday-evening.
The semi-final place for Liverpool was of course a surprise, but the semi-final place for AS Roma did the whole football world amazed. It was already a small miracle that the Italians managed to survive a group with, among others, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, but their stunt in the quarter-finals will be discussed in Rome and its surroundings for years to come. The Giallorossi appeared after the 4-1 defeat in the first match in and against Barcelona, without any chance, but still managed to write history by putting the Spanish football giant in the return with a 3-0 victory over the slaughter. Unbelievable.
That AS Roma will make an appearance on Anfield Road on Tuesday evening is an absolute football miracle. For the Romans, this means their first European semi-final since the 1990-1991 season, when they were able to write the UEFA Cup in their name. Since the departure of Salah, Edin Dzeko is the big man in the team of trainer Eusebio di Francesco. Although the Bosnian striker scores a lot less this year than last year, with the opening in the Camp Nou and the early opening goal in his own Stadio Olimpico, he played a very big part in the miracle against FC Barcelona. Last weekend, in the Italian Serie A, just like Aleksandar Kolarov, Alessandro Florenzi and Daniele De Rossi, he got a break in the away match against lowflight SPAL, which the Romans nevertheless easily won 0-3.
