So far, the young player in South Korea has an excellent clay season. In 2017, he scores seven wins and two defeats, and managed a quarter of the final at the ATP Barcelona tournament, where he was eliminated by winner of that edition, Rafael Nadal, with the score of 7-6, 6-2 .

In Munich, Hyeon encountered some difficulty in the first round when he met Maximilian Marterer (128 ATP), a host representative. After a first set at the tiebreak (12-10), Chung gave the second to 4, for the decisive to score 6-3, thanks to a break made at the start of the set.
