Espanyol – Eibar SOCCER PICKS
Espanyol will face Eibar on Tuesday-evening for home crowd. Both teams seem very well matched, although it remains to be seen whether we will see many goals.
With seven points from five matches, Espanyol has a reasonable start to the season. That surprises me quite a bit, since the Catalans this summer star player Gerard Moreno saw his bags. Last weekend Espanyol came out well again, although Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu proved to be 1-0 too strong for the men of trainer Rubi. Espanyol had the potential to hurt De Koninklijke, but failed in the completion.
The lack of scoring ability at Espanyol is certainly not new. Last season, the blue-witches already had a lot of trouble getting the net to bulge, even though the goate-thief Moreno managed to hide that with his goals. He now defends the colors of Villarreal, while successor Borja Iglesias is clearly a bit less.
Eibar is more or less in the same boat as Espanyol. Defensively, it’s a mustache with the Basques, but making goals is a lot harder for them. Last weekend, the redblue booked a thrilling 1-0 victory over Leganes, in a match that had few other highlights. “The most important thing is that we have won from a direct competitor,” says trainer Jose Luis Mendilibar. “Leganes did not have a chance.”
Eibar has a very nice team in itself and does fine with seven points from the last two duels, but to really make a step forward, it needs a real finishing touch. Both Sergi Enrich and Kike Garcia miss in my eyes scoring ability. Charles Dias has more of a nose for the goal, but under Mendilibar he usually has to settle for a spot on the bench.
