Atl. Madrid – Mallorca SOCCER PICKS

This Friday evening Atletico Madrid and Real Mallorca will kick off the 34th round in LaLiga. The Madrilenians are of course a towering favorite in their own Wanda Metropolitano, but visitors from the Spanish holiday island suddenly believe in body preservation again.

Atletico Madrid:

With four wins and two draws, Atletico Madrid has come out of the corona break. Last Tuesday evening, the Madrid team again made an impression by fighting back twice in the top match in and against Barcelona from a deficit: 2-2. Thanks to this strong series, the red whites are firmly in third place in LaLiga, the place where they naturally belong in terms of reputation, player material and budget.

Trainer Diego Simeone said after the draw against FC Barcelona that he was satisfied with the progress his team is going through: “In our last match before the corona break, at Anfield against Liverpool, we already played very well. We managed to continue that line after the resumption of competition, although it is still too early to judge. ‘ Atleti indeed has wings, and is remarkably fit. Against FC Barcelona, the team had only 27% possession, but the best chances in the final phase were for the Madrid players Diego Costa and Thomas Lemar. An away win at the Camp Nou would certainly not have been undeserved.

Real Mallorca:

Admittedly, I had absolutely not seen the 5-1 monster victory of Real Mallorca at Celta de Vigo last Tuesday evening. The football from the island club has been pretty nice for a long time, but the desired results were largely not achieved. Thanks to the great victory at Celta de Vigo, hope is once again on the horizon, because with five rounds to go, the gap in the safe seventeenth place suddenly becomes only five points. Body preservation is still a tough job, but hope gives life.

At Real Mallorca, the thoughts this week went back to the 2004-2005 season, when the red shirts managed to play safely from an equally hopeless position thanks to a strong final sprint. Especially the return of Croatian goalkeeper Ante Budimir has done the team good, although he will have to miss the away match against Atletico Madrid due to a suspension. That is really a huge loss, because he can count himself with Iago Aspas (Celta de Vigo) among the best strikers of the Spanish right-hand row.
