South Africa U20
In the first day, both teams lost their matches. The Italy team had a very contested and difficult match against a great selection of Uruguay, to finish falling 1-0. The South African team were beaten by Japan, who made a great game to come back, generating enough chances, and to win 2-1.
The South African national team consists mainly of players from the South African league. The best player is Luther Singh, undoubtedly, and great artifice of the Africans classification, who has played in Goteborg GAIS of the Swedish league where he scored 1 goal in 9 games. The South African team managed to qualify as the continent’s 4th in the African championship, having been defeated by the continent’s other contenders.
Italy U20
The selection of Italy brings, from my point of view, a pretty attractive team. Like almost all the teams, it brings its selection formed by players of the local league, but the level of the Italian one is higher. Players like Rolando Mandragora (Juventus), Favilli (Ascoli), Vido (Citadella), Barella (Cagliari), Dimarco (Inter) … have made their Serie A debut or are a regular in their Serie B teams, a competitive level To which few teams of the tournament can aspire. They are the current runners-up in European U-19, tournament in which the classification was decided.
Italy has only to win or win. Going to the last day to play with a good Japan to reach that third place is too risky even for Italy. They are better team than South Africa and they can not stop winning the group’s easier match. They have capacity and need.
