Slovenia – Austria SOCCER PICKS

The European Championship qualification is entering the exciting, decisive phase at the latest. Even in group G everything is still open. A preliminary decision could bring the match between Slovenia and Austria next Sunday.

In the stadium Stožice in Ljubljana the fourth of qualifying round G receives the second. The Slovenian national team is currently at eleven points. A 2-1 defeat in northern Macedonia last Thursday, the Slovenes slip from second place ranking on the fourth. A victory against the northern neighbor would be extremely important in order to stay in the race for the Euro 2020.

The Austrians won their match against Israel on Thursday night 3-1. This puts the Alpine Republic in second place with 13 points and thus a qualifier for the upcoming European Championship. An away win could bring Austria into a very comfortable starting position before the last two matchdays.

The close constellation in the group G table is also reflected in the odds. Slovenia are the easy outsiders in the upcoming game.

Due to very solid performances in the past games, the Austrians are in the easy favorites role.

Everything is done for an exciting playoff between the two neighboring states.

Slovenia:

Before the game on Thursday evening, the football world looked good from the Slovenian point of view. The Mediterranean country was second with one point ahead of Austria. Due to the 1: 2 defeat against North Macedonia, this opponent overtook the Slovenes due to a better goal difference.

For the team of coach Matjaz Kek it was after three wins in a row the only second defeat in the current European Championship qualification. This leaves Slovenia with three wins, two draws and two defeats after seven match days.

Matjaz Kek was very variable during the qualification and often adapted his system to the opponent. The favored line-up of the 58-year-old Slovenian is the 4-4-2, in which he has already accumulated his team in three out of seven games. The more offensive 4-3-3 brought only two 1-1 draws for the Slovenian national team.

Defensively, the Slovenian national team is error-prone. In the previous seven games, the Slovenes conceded seven goals. Actually, this is a relatively solid value. However, the country managed only two times in the qualifiers for the European Championship on the Adriatic to keep the zero.

The goal is the star of the Slovenian national team. Jan Oblak was on the field in every match of the European Championship qualification for his home country. The goalkeeper of Atletico Madrid is playing a great season so far and has been able to keep his mark in six out of eight games in La Liga.

Defender Miha Mevlja also missed a minute of play in the European Championship qualifier. Together with Aljaz Struna he forms the central defense of the hosts. In general, it should be noted that coach Matjaz Kek relies on consistency.

The Slovenian coach always put in this qualification on the same back four. Only captain Bojan Jokic was not in the Slovenian squad in two matches. However, these players are not among the European top class. The weaknesses in the defense support in the game between Slovenia and Austria, the forecast of an away win.

Attacking the Slovenian national team in a good shape. The hosts scored 13 times in the current qualifying round. Thus, they represent the most dangerous offensive of the group G to Austria. The Slovenian team is convincing in the offensive alliance not by individual quality, but by a strong collective.

Five players managed to put down their home country twice. No Slovene scored more often in this qualification. Nevertheless, Andraz Sporar should be emphasized. Slovan Bratislava’s legionnaire is Slovenia’s top scorer with two goals and three assists.

Austria:

Austria made an important step towards EURO 2020 with their 3-1 victory against Israel in Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium last Thursday. After a miserable start to the qualifier with two defeats, Franco Foda’s team has been in better form and form meanwhile unbeaten for five games in a row.

Thus, the Austrians stand at 13 points from seven games. The gap to leaders Poland is three points, and the cushion for Northern Macedonia and Slovenia is two points thick.

Franco Foda faces a great challenge. Already before the game against Israel it was announced that David Alaba will miss the two qualifiers this week. During the match in Vienna Konrad Laimer, Stefan Posch and Marko Arnautovic had to be replaced due to injury.

The chance of a bet on the three players is still unclear, as it does not seem to be a serious injury. Franco Foda is also a flexible coach. In the last three games, he always let his team accumulate in 4-2-3-1.

As well as the upcoming opponents Slovenia conceded Austria in the current European Championship qualification seven goals. On the Austrian side, this is probably the largest construction site. For three games, Cican Stankovic is the number one guest. Against Israel, the 26-year-old goalkeeper of Red Bull Salzburg received his first goal in the jersey of his homeland.

Aleksandar Dragovic was in every qualifier on the court. His center-back partner Martin Hinteregger resumed after a suspension against Poland against Israel and rewarded that confidence with a dream goal.

The great strength of the Austrians is their offensive. In the current qualification, the Alpine Republic scored 16 goals. Thus, the ÖFB is the most dangerous team in Group G. With six goals Marko Arnautovic counts to the top scorer of the entire European Championship qualification.

The China legionnaire was able to convince in the final game by a goal. A failure of the 30-year-old attacker would significantly weaken the Austrian national team. Konrad Laimer and Marcel Sabitzer must also be highlighted. The two players from RB Leipzig have already given their Austrian team-mates a total of nine goals.

Sabitzer is together with Valentino Lazaro with two goals the second best scorer of the ÖFB. These strong offensive performances in the game between Slovenia and Austria reinforce the forecast, which predicts an away win.
