The Old Firm, one of the most traditional Derbys in the world, is held on Sunday for the 406th time in history. With 159: 148 victories, the Rangers lead the eternal comparison still scarcely. However, the lead has clearly melted over the years. The club was forced down some time ago and has now fought back into the first league after years and is currently playing the second violin behind Celtic. In individual duels, however, they have already shown that they are again close to the city rivals. In the last league game, for example, the Rangers abroad earned a point at the 1: 1 draw. The last Ligasieg dates from 2012 and is thus a while back. In the trophy they played two years ago in the semifinals as a similar outsider as today after elimination shootings. Celtic Glasgow is the undisputed number one in Scotland. As in the last few years, the advantage in this league is well over 20 points and the championship has already been decided. Internationally the Scots are not represented for a long time and so the few KO games in the FA Cup are the salt in the soup of the remaining season. At the national level, the Green-Whites have not lost a single game this season. The last bust comes from May 2016. This says a lot about the great dominance of Celtic in the league. 91 points after 33 games are very close to the maximum yield. Just four times, the Brendan Rogers team had to share the points, once in the last 2-2 against Ross County. The three-team Sinclair, Dembele and Armstrong are offensive the best in Scottish football. The trio alone has already scored 50 goals this season and thus almost as many as the Rangers overall.

After the Rangers’ return to the Premier League, the club is looking for a connection to the eternal rival. The years in the lower class are of course still to be felt and it will take his time until the Rangers will move back to the top with Celtic. The 1: 1 a few weeks ago was a first important step, in order to show that they can compete with the serial master of the last years. The consistency must improve even more over the whole year, if the Rangers want to have a serious word in the title fight. In the last few weeks, this has improved, and since eight games, the Blues-Whites have been without defeat (five wins, three draws). In the trophy, they have the great opportunity to take part in the game of the year for the coup and to make it into the final with a success over Celtic as two years ago.
