Bulgaria – England SOCCER PICKS

Only very few would have expected that! In the battle for second place in Group A, the Czechs landed a surprise coup against the front runners from England on Friday night.

With 2: 1, the “Three Lions” were defeated and made a big step towards EURO 2020. The victims of this unexpected result in Prague are the Kosovars, who now stand with their backs to the wall three games before the end of the qualification.

Parallel to the encounter between Kosovo and Montenegro, the match against Bulgaria will take place on Monday evening. England. The odds of the bookmakers imply a clear favorite role in favor of the team of Gareth Southgate, who wants to rehabilitate for the overall weak performance in the Czech Republic.

The Bulgarians may well be just the right opponents, as the “lions” are still completely without victory in the European Championship qualifiers so far. However, one should not underestimate the Eastern Europeans, because only the first leg against the men from the island was lost with more than one goal difference (0: 4). Otherwise, the Balakov Elf delivered their opponents each a proper fight.

Among other things, we would therefore do without a forecast on the outcome in the match between Bulgaria and England, especially since the prices are not high enough to filter out an attractive value.

Instead, we opt for a Bulgaria vs. England hint that at least two goals will be scored in the first half, no matter on which side of the field. The kick-off at Vasil Levski Stadium will be on Monday evening at 19:45.

Bulgaria:

The Bulgarian national team is looking forward to the end of the international year. Probably we do not lean too far out of the window with this thesis, because after all, the “lions” have not been able to win any of their seven matches in 2019 so far.

Even the change of coach Petar Hubchev former Bundesliga pro Krassimir Balakov in the summer has helped in any way. Under the leadership of the ex-Stuttgarters, who was no longer under contract as a trainer for more than two years, the Bulgarians conceded four defeats in five games (a draw).

Only last Friday Balakov was allowed to celebrate his first personal point win, the 0-0 in an extremely weak international match in the also still winless Montenegrins not even rudimentary should be considered a respectable success.

After all, presented the world ranking 60th Defensive somewhat more stable than in the previous games. Keeper Plamen Iliev had to swallow a total of 12 goals in four matches before (never less than two), the Bulgarians kept their white vest for the first time since September 2018.

However, this does not change the fact that we face the unequal duel against Bulgaria. England predict that the outsider will once again reach its own limits on Monday. Even in the 0: 4 defeat in the first leg of the fourth World Cup in 1994 was hopelessly inferior. In addition, the self-confidence has suffered logically after currently ten winless games in series.

Therefore, we can not imagine a scenario in which a tip on a sensational success of the Group A bottom will pay off between Bulgaria and England. Rather, the underdog should take care not to get completely under the wheels against the angry “Three Lions”. But we would not rule out such a gameplay by any means, especially since the sporting value of the encounter on Monday night is limited for the hosts.

It is quite possible that Krassimir Balakov will not make much changes in the starting eleven in comparison to the mentioned draw in Montenegro. This would mean that the Bulgarians try again with a 4-5-1 system and focus on defensively well. However, whether the quality is sufficient to keep zero for as long as possible may be critically questioned.

England:

With four wins from four games, the English plowed until last Friday through the European Championship qualifiers. In the Czech Republic, the protégés of coach Gareth Southgate wanted to follow the next threesome and set the course early for a European Championship participation in 2020.

It is possible that the favored islander was doomed by this very self-image, whose boundaries tend to overflow arrogance and arrogance.

After a 1-0 lead by Harry Kane’s penalty, the “Three Lions” lost their focus, equalizing just four minutes later and were eventually beaten 2-1 (85) by another late goal give.

For the English national team, this was only the second failure after regular time in the past two years. The world champion of 1966 – not only since the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup – has long fought back to the top of the world and is now among the co-favorites for the European champion title in the coming year.

So that the 1: 2 in Prague can be ticked off as an industrial accident or slip-up, the world ranking fourth should return on Monday evening on the road to success. Between Bulgaria and England the bookmakers have no doubt according to the quotas that this will happen. All advantages are on the part of the guests, who want to underline once more their offensive strength.

With 20 goals in five games, the English still face the best attack of the entire qualification. In four of the matches so far, Harry Kane and Co. have scored at least four goals; in three cases there were even five of them.

Also interesting is the fact that the “Three Lions” in the course of qualifying always laid in the first half, the foundation for later success. Eleven hits in the first 45 minutes also mean a qualifying best.

In three games alone, the men from the island to the half-time whistle had two or more goals in the account.

Of course, unlike the Bulgarians, the English have plenty of alternatives. So we think it’s not unlikely that Southgate mixes his starting-line a bit and brings, for example, Alexander-Arnold, Chilwell, Gomez, Winks or Sancho from the beginning.
