Algeria – Kenya SOCCER PICKS

The Africa Cup is now in full swing in Egypt. In the first round in group C, Algeria will compete against Kenya in Cairo. Both countries are in shape and are therefore working towards their opening match with confidence!

Algeria:

Algeria is one of the outsiders for winning the Africa Cup this summer. Logical, because the selection of De Woestijnvossen houses various big names with players like Islam Slimani, Yacini Brahimi and of course Riyad Mahrez. Nevertheless, the North Africans are still relatively wet behind this level. Since winning the Africa Cup in 1990, Algeria only managed to get past the quarter-finals once, and in two of the last three editions the country even fell in the group stage. Underestimation can therefore not be allowed on Sunday evening.

The Algerian self-confidence is high anyway. “We want to make the Algerian people proud,” said Kheireddine Zetchi, the president of the Algerian Football Association. The form is a must, because since former international Djamel Belmadi was appointed as national coach in August last year, Algeria remained unbeaten in eight of its nine international matches.

Kenya:

For Kenya, the Africa Cup can no longer go wrong, because the country is back in the African country tournament after an absence of fifteen years. The West Africans could not complain about happiness: not only was the field of participants expanded from 16 to 24, Sierra Leone was also disqualified during the qualification. The Harambee Stars, however, also showed that they were able to play nicely by beating local superpower Ghana with 1-0 during qualifying.

In Kenya, midfielder Victor Wanyama is the only big name. Opponents, however, are advised not to underestimate Kenya, because the country is a tough opponent because of its strong rear. The team of national coach Sebastien Migne only had to allow two goals in her last seven international matches. The attack, however, is clearly the weak spot, because apart from Michael Olunga there is not a single Kenyan who regularly manages to find the enemy target. So we probably don’t expect many Kenyan goals this summer.
