The midweek round also has a derby. Mainz 05 is in its own stadium opposite the neighbors of Eintracht Frankfurt. The blades will be sharpened in this battle.

Mainz 05:

For Mainz 05 it went wrong last Sunday. When visiting RB Leipzig Mainz did not have the form needed to get a chance for a good result. The defeat might have been somewhat flattering, but not in itself wrong. Die Nullfünfer lost in Saxony with 4-1. For a team like Mainz, for which the main goal is not to degrade, there is as yet little cause for concern. With nineteen out of fifteen, the red-white are well on course for enforcement.

“We have to play positionally better against Frankfurt than we did against Leipzig,” said trainer Sandro Schwarz at the preparatory perconference. ‘With a good mentality we want to make it a special Rhein-Main-Derby,’ says Schwarz. Some changes in the base are possible. Jean-Paul Boetius, who sat on the bench in Leipzig, has a chance of winning a starting place.

Eintracht Frankfurt:

Eintracht Frankfurt had two lesser weeks in the competition, in which two were lost. Last week the team from Hessen won again. Bayer showed good form at home against Bayer Leverkusen. The game against Leverkusen was won 2-1. That win came after the 1-2 victory that Frankfurt booked in the Europa League in Rome against Lazio three days earlier. So it was a good week for Die SGE.

The Europa League seems to be Frankfurt. All six group matches were won by coach Adi Hütter. There was a small disappointment with the draw. Frankfurt was in fact linked to one of side entrants from the Champions League. In February Shakhtar Donetsk is twice the opponent of Eintracht. Before that, however, there are still the necessary domestic matches on the roll. Compared to Sunday’s match, Jonathan de Guzman probably returns to the starting line-up. That would be at the expense of Jetro Willems, who was surprisingly positioned as left central midfielder against Leverkusen.
