Spain – Switzerland FREE PICKS

In just two weeks the World Cup will break loose. Both Spain and Switzerland want to work towards the World Cup with a good feeling, so a good result in the mutual practice match at the Ceramica in Villarreal would be very welcome.

Spain:

Spain was not at the 2014 World Cup and the European Championships in 2016, but the South Europeans have regained their position since the appointment of national coach Julen Lopetegui. He provided fresh blood for players such as David de Gea, Marco Asensio and Isco, with whom he managed to rekindle the sacred fire. With no less than nine victories and only a draw, the Spaniards had a sublime World Cup qualification. Not only did La Roja score lusty with no less than 36 goals, but the defense also faced only three goals as a home. Spain, together with countries such as Germany and Brazil, is among the top favorites for World Cup winnings.

In spite of this, Spain is unlikely to be in full swing in its swing-out game against Switzerland. The Real Madrid players Nacho, Isco, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Sergio Ramos won the Champions League last week and therefore got some time off. Since they only joined the Spanish squad on Friday-afternoon, there is little chance that they will take action against the Swiss on Sunday-evening. Lopetegui will probably give some reserves the chance, although it is clear that players like Alvaro Odriozola (Real Sociedad) and Iago Aspas (Celta de Vigo) can kick a nice ball.

Switzerland:

Switzerland is also preparing for the approaching World Cup. The friendly international against former world champion Spain is very important to them, since the country is comparable in strength to Brazil, which will be the opponent in the first group match on June 17th.

With a 6-0 victory in their last international match and only a defeat in the last six international matches, Switzerland has been in good shape lately. Nevertheless, the Swiss football fans currently hold their hearts. Star player Granit Xhaka (Arsenal) had to leave the training pitch this week and is a doubtful case for the opening game against Brazil. The midfielder will miss Spain on Sunday night anyway. However, the objective of La Nati remains unchanged. In a group with Costa Rica, Serbia and therefore Brazil, the Swiss want to become at least second and thus place themselves in the knockout phase. With players like Valon Behrami (Udinese), Xherdan Shaqiri (Stoke City) and Breel Embolo (Schalke 04), Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus) and Ricardo Rodriguez (AC Milan), the Alpenland has quite some quality, although the national coach Vladimir Petkovic lacks true world class players.
