Everton – Southampton FREE PICKS
A renews Everton takes on Southampton this weekend. These two clubs played in their first match of the new season and hope this weekend for the first time this season to add three points.
Everton:
For Everton, it has to be a season where the club will end up behind the big clubs in the Premier League. We’re used to that from The Toffees, but last season was a pretty bad year for the Liverpool club and so this summer the wallet was pulled. Marcel Brands won a few hundred million euros worth of new players to Goodison Park and those players must deliver Everton at least seventh place. The potential is there in any case with players like Richarlison, Yerri Mina and Bernard. Moreover, The Toffees with Marco Silva also have a great trainer.
Not all acquisitions participated when Everton went to visit PhD student Wolverhampton Wanderers last week. Richarlison did play in the Molineux and the first two shots of the Brazilian were immediately hit, while he ended last season at Watford with 53 shots without a goal. A stupid red card for Phil Jagielka, who mistook the ball, however, ensured that Everton only returned home with a 2-2 draw. A result that The Toffees – in view of the red card – were happy with, although Everton with Jagielka probably just won from the Wolves. In the first few weeks of the new season, Everton will have to go for points immediately, as with Wolverhampton, Southampton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield Town and West Ham United, Everton will not yet make a team out of the top six.
Southampton:
Mark Hughes hopes for a good season this season with Southampton. The Welshmen managed to save The Saints last season from relegation and with this achievement this season also has final responsibility at St. Mary’s Stadium. The club has a lot of players this summer, including Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jannik Vestergaard. The question, however, is whether this kind of players will take Southampton directly to a higher level, also because The Saints with Dušan Tadić lost an important pivot. In any case, Southampton does not want to be in danger of relegation this season and the selection also seems to have too much quality to actually endanger.
The start of the Southampton season was in any case reasonable. Burnley visited St. Mary’s Stadium in the first round and Southampton managed to keep the visitors on a goalless draw. It was a game of the keepers, both of which have done quite some rescues during the game. All in all, Hughes was not unhappy about the draw against Burnley. In addition, Hughes let Danny Ings also make a few minutes, so that Ings could eventually become the top for The Saints.
