Iceland vs. Austria Prediction EURO 2016

  • Iceland and Austria will be face to face today starting with 17:00 in a very balanced and interesting competition here at Euro 2016, this match will be one of the most interesting matches at Euro 2016, Iceland is one of the most interesting surprises in this Championship and they have all the chances to go in the next phase.
  • After impressive draw with Portugal, Iceland comes after another 1-1 draw with Hungary, the match against Hungary was great and they lead the competition from the first half, and they could won the match if Saevarsson would not have scored in his own gate.
  • In 95 minute Icelanders had a great chance for goal, with the final match. Sigurdsson a free kick from the edge of the area in the wall, and the rejection Gudjohnsen fired first, but the ball was cleared by a defender Magyar went just wide.
  • Iceland could still won their first soccer in its history at Euro, in overtime, the veteran the shot of Gudjohnsen, the fifth oldest outfield player in the history of continental final tournament, went at a short distance from Kiraly’s goal, and that was how the match ended 1-1.
  • Now Iceland are ranked on the 2nd place in the group at the same number of points with Portugal. We expect the match with Austria to be very hard for Iceland, as this is the only chance of Austria to maintain a place in Euro 2016, if they will lose this match they will go home.
  • Austria is ranked on the last place in the standings with only one point, Austria comes after a 0-2 defeat with Hungay and a scoreless draw with Portugal. If it wasn’t for Cristiano Ronaldo failure shot in penalty, now Austria would have no chance to go further in the next phase of Euro 2016.
  • Austria were lucky to come out with a point in the draw against Portugal, the team managed just 4 shots on target so far. Their head-coach Marcel Koller is aware that he must win this mach and the competition will be very tie, also his players’ performances have been below par. Austria are staring at a similar fate they suffered when they co-hosted the tournament in 2008, where they got eliminated in the group stages after failing to win a single match.
  • Austria are one of the teams that qualified to the Euros unbeaten alongside England, Italy and Romania, they were one of the favourites at this championship and unfortunately now they need to fight only to go in the next phase with no notable results achieved in their last two matches played s far at Euro.
  • Las time when the two teams have met in a direct match was in 2014 in a friendly match and the result was 1-1. The two sides have met three times so far, two matches ended in a draw and one was won by Austria.
  • Iceland: Predicted line-up (4-4-2):
  • Halldorsson – Saevarsson, Arnason, R.Sigurdsson, Skulason – Gudmundsson, Bjarnasson, G. Sigurdsson, Bjarnason – Sigthorsson, Bodvarsson.
  • Austria Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1):
  • Almer – Fuchs, Dragovic, Hinteregger, Klein – Baumgartlinger, Ilsanker – Sabitzer, Alaba, Arnautovic – Harnik.

LIVE Comments from our visitor for Iceland vs. Austria

Austria haven’t scored a goal in their last three games and conceded in 5 of their last 6, they must win the match but the stake is huge for both teams and Iceland seemed very motivated to go further. I assume that Austria will play tough and will give everything in this match, they will not keep nothing for them as they have nothing more to lose if they will lose this match.

Iceland’s form is great and they also have the luck on their side. The type of the match is totally different comparing with other teams, they look to take their chances by launching quick counter attacks.
